The 1% Project

“We can’t help everyone. But everyone can help someone.” – Ronald Regan

Every Year Journey-Smiths tries to give something back to the community.

  • In 2019 we gifted our leadership development programme to the Chums charity in the UK. Chums provide bereavement support for children, young people and families.

  • In 2020, we provided free leadership development support to a New Zealand not-for-profit organisation that provides online safety support and advice for New Zealanders.

  • In 2021 we launched The 1% Project, an initiative which gave you the opportunity to decide who we can help. Together we provided beds for the homeless, food parcels for the hungry, and a place of safety for those in danger.

It turns out the 1% Project really resonated. So again, this Christmas, our Christmas gift to you, is your gift to someone in need.

At least 1% of the value of the work we do with you this year will go to one of the charities below. All you need to do is to decide who it goes to, and we’ll do the rest.

All of these charities have been chosen for a reason. They are meaningful to us because we’ve either used them ourselves, or someone we care about has needed their help.

Have a read about who they are and what they do. When we get in touch about our donation, just let us know who you’d like to receive the gift.

If there is another charity that is close to your heart, we’re happy to support them too. Just let us know and we’ll make it happen.

The Cerebral Palsy Society is a member-based organisation that strives to enhance the lives of people with cerebral palsy in New Zealand by providing programmes, support and advice.

Help feed people not landfills. Fair Food rescues fresh food from growers, grocers, and manufacturers, and hand sorts it for charities.

KidsCan is Aotearoa New Zealand’s leading charity dedicated to helping Kiwi kids affected by poverty.

StarJam, a not-for-profit where young New Zealanders with disabilities unleash their full potential through the magic of music, dance and performance.

The Mission has been supporting Aucklanders in need with services and support. The types of support have changed over the years, but our determination to help others has never wavered.

Our purpose is to liberate women, children and whānau from family violence.

Visionwest exists to address homelessness, reduce poverty, support the elderly, and ensure young people have hope for the future.

We chose the word Nourish as it describes our goal – We want all children, and their families, to have the food and care they need to live, grow and be healthy.

Under the banner of Nourish, we provide hampers of food to families at Christmas, across the Wellington region.

NCF provides long term ongoing rehabilitation services for adults with conditions such as Stroke, Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Acquired Brain Injury, Cerebral Palsy and other neurological conditions.

Paralympics New Zealand (PNZ) is the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) for New Zealand. We are a charity organization and our overall vision is, ‘Through Para sport, lives will be transformed’.

Now 1% doesn’t sound much does it. And it’s not. It’s an amount we can afford, and it’s an amount we won’t miss. So why wouldn’t we help someone when we can.

But 1% could be huge for any one of these charities. 1% for example for the 1% of New Zealanders who are homeless, and who need the Auckland City Mission this Christmas, might just be the difference between a Christmas dinner and a bed, or another night alone and hungry under a motorway bridge.

So thank you for helping us give something back this year. And if you want to donate more yourself, feel free to contact any of the charities above through the links provided. They will be pleased to hear from you that’s for sure!
